Ivanka Trump Cuts 'Cosmo' Interview Short Following Tough Questioning

The potential First Daughter didn't appreciate what she believed to be "negative" questions regarding her father's stance on maternity leave.

At this point in the election cycle, with the big day less than two months away, you'd think that Ivanka Trump would be used to juggling questions about her father's controversial statements. But during an interview regarding Donald's maternity leave plan with Cosmopolitan on Wednesday, the potential First Daughter's frustrations led her to cut the chat short.

"So I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions," Trump told Cosmo's Prachi Gupta after the glossy's senior writer brought up an incident in 2004 in which Donald referred to pregnancy as an "inconvenient" thing for business. "My father has been a great advocate for the women in the workforce, and that's part of why he recognized that reform is so necessary," she added.

To Ivanka's point, Gupta apologized if her line of questioning came across as "negative," but noted his words were relevant to the point about workplace policies.

Ivanka's irritation was palpable in her reply: "I think what I was — there's plenty of time for you to editorialize around this, but I think he put forth a really incredible plan that has pushed the boundaries of what anyone else is talking about. On child care specifically, there are no proposals on the table. He really took ownership of this issue, and I really applaud him for doing that. I hope that, regardless of what your political viewpoint is, this should be celebrated."

After briefly fielding one more question about funding (in which she mostly pointed to her father's upcoming speech — "Well, he's going to unveil his total tax-reform plan on Thursday, and this is a component of that, so it will be included in his overall budget and economic vision."), Ivanka cut the interview short.

"I'm going to jump off, I have to run. I apologize," she said.
