THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Answering to the calling of attention by Adoor Prakash, Health Minister K K Shylaja has said that since the 50 acres of land full of rocks in Nudumpara in Konni is unsuitable for the construction of medical college, another 25 acres of land will have to be found in some other place for its construction.

"Man can access only 25 acres of land in that 50 acres of land. They are tall quarries, and the rest of the land are steep inclines. About 3.40 tons of rock were excavated for the first phase of construction. The current constructions would be affected if anymore excavation is done.

Anyone who's ready to remove the excavated rocks can take them. Only two staff quarters and a hostel can be built even if the rest of the rock are excavated. Another land has to be found for the construction of buildings that comply by the standards set by the medical council,"she said.

"50 students would get admission for MBBS if a hospital with 300 beds is constructed. We have already created 108 new posts. Another 750 posts will have to be created. About 80 per cent of the 3.4 lakh square feet building have already been constructed, or else the project at Nedumpara would have been abandoned,"she said.
