Product Test: Maui Moisture
March 19--Maui Moisture sent us their Curl Quench + Coconut Oil blend formulated for thick, curly hair, and since I'm the only one in our department who's hair fits that description, I dutifully tested it out.
I'm traditionally a no-poo, conditioning shampoo treatment lover, but this shampoo is creamy and cleansing without being overly drying. It also didn't leave my hair feeling squeaky, brittle clean, which is usually a bad sign. Followed by the rinse-out conditioner and a leave-in lotion, this collection was a treat.
The leave-in lotion isn't ideal for dark hair because it leaves a white residue, so I had to towel some of it off to feel presentable, but otherwise the feel of it was great. And if I used it at night, it was less problematic.
There's also a creamy mask that contains this collection's blend to condition curls, reduce frizz and improve overall curl definition. I was happy on all accounts. Although frizz isn't necessarily a problem for me, dryness is.
But there's a special Maui Moisture collection for most hair descriptions, including Nourish & Moisture (for normal to dry hair); Heal & Hydrate (dry, damaged or overstyled); Strength & Anti-Breakage + Agave Nectar (chemically treated); Smooth & Repair +Vanilla Bean (frizzy and dull); and Thicken & Restore + Bamboo Fibers.
