This dish is from the 17th century when an old, toothless Nawab of Oudh was no longer able to enjoy his favourite cuisine. Back then tunday kebabs weren’t that soft. It took effort to chew the kebabs. But it changed everything after Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula thought of revamping the dish.
This Is Where It All Started From
The Nawab was very fond of Awadh cuisine. As he lost his tooth because of old age he found it difficult to relish his favourite kebabs. As he loved eating he organised a competition and declared that who so ever would make the softest kebab which he would be able to enjoy would get the royal patronage. Among all the fellow participants, Haji Murad Ali was the only one who succeeded to create the most tender kebabs which would just melt in your mouth like candy floss.
Why Is It Named As ‘Tunday Kebab’?
Back in those times the legend Haji Murad Ali lost his arms after he fell off the roof. Due to his disability, the kebab got named as Tunday Kebab because he was the original creator of them. He also started the famous shop at the end of the 17th century. The most interesting part is that 125 different spices and condiments are used in the preparation of the most delicious kebabs.
