Woman bared from flying for life and fined for Rs 72 lakh for aggressive behaviour
Not a lot of people get barred from flying for life, extremely aggressive behaviour by someone generally gets them on that list. Chloe Haines, a 25-year-old barista is the latest person to join the no-flying list.
She has been fined for Rs 72,36190 (USD 105000) along with the not being allowed to fly again because of the mayhem that she created on a Jet2.com flight from the United Kingdom to Turkey on June 22.
Chloe, who is a Costa Coffee barista was travelling with her wheelchair-bound grandmother on the flight. According to reports, Chloe attempted to open the emergency exit and tried getting into the cockpit during the flight.
Due to her extremely aggressive behaviour, two fighter jets from the Royal Air Force (RAF) had to be sent to bring the plane back.
In an interview with the Sun UK, Steve Heapy, CEO Jet2 said, "Miss Haines' behavior was one of the most serious cases of disruptive passenger behavior that we have experienced. She must now face up to the consequences of her actions, and we will vigorously pursue to recover the costs that we incurred as a result of this divert, as we do with all disruptive passengers."
Other passengers on the flight tried to take control of the situation. 58-year-old, Steve Brown, who was one of the passengers who tried to control the situation, said that she screamed, punched and kicked the flight attendants who stopped her from opening the emergency exit.
He said, "She was only petite but she had the strength of a fully grown man. The only time I've seen anything like that was when someone had just dropped acid, she had super strength."
Amy Varol, another passenger explained the entire incident, "The woman was walking down the aisle when she literally ran to the exit door. She had her hands on the handle trying to open it. Luckily there were two cabin crew who pulled her off the door. She started assaulting the two crew members, a woman and a man.
She added, "A big guy then literally threw her down to the floor and there was one person holding one arm and another person holding the other, then a man sat on her and one person was holding her leg and someone else holding the other one.
"That's when she started screaming, 'Get off me, I'm going to kill everyone!'"
