Mayawati-Akhilesh Alliance LIVE: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav holds a joint press conference on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh state capital Lucknow.
This is the first after both the parties gave contours of an electoral alliance ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Mayawati-Akhilesh Alliance LIVE:
# BSP Chief Mayawati: BSP will contest on 38 seats, SP on 38 seats. Two Lok Sabha seats we have left for other parties and Amethi and Rae Bareli have been left for Congress.
# BSP Chief Mayawati: Moreover, we won’t gain anything by including Congress in our alliance. Both BSP and SP have experienced in the past that Congress’s vote is not transferrable
# BSP Chief Mayawati: We have pursued late Kanshi Ram’s mission. In 1993 we got into alliance with the Samajwadi party though it could not last long because of some serious issues including the state guest house episode.
# BSP Chief Mayawati: Be it BJP or Congress, whoever rules, their policies are mostly the same. For example, we are seeing how both indulged in corruption in defence deals. Congress imposed declared emergency, today there is undeclared emergency
# BSP Chief Mayawati: We(BSP-SP) have decided to contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections together, this will lead to a new political revolution in the country.
# The press conference, to be held at Lucknow’s Hotel Taj at 12pm, is the first Yadav will address since his 2017 joint address with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for the assembly elections.
# Posters all over the state.
# SP-BSP posters and party flags seen in Lucknow. Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati will jointly address the media later today
Coming together after 25 years
This will be exactly after 25 years that both the parties will be coming together to contest the elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Earlier, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Kanshi Ram had joined hands to contest the elections and registered a massive victory.
Announcement ahead of Mayawati’s birthday
The announcement comes ahead of Mayawati’s birthday on January 15 though both the leaders are expected to share the stage on the day to give out a message of unity among their respective cadres. Yadav’s wife and Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav also shares her birthday with the BSP chief.
