3 years after 2 children were burnt to death, CBI fails to file charges

Get News Updates directly on your WhatsApp!Click here to Subscribe.CHANDIGARH: Nearly three years after two Dalit children were burnt to death at Sunped village of Faridabad district, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has failed to submit a chargesheet in the case. The investigative agency has again sought more time from the CBI court in Panchkula to complete the investigation.
Opposing CBI’s plea on Thursday, defence counsel Abhishek Singh Rana submitted before the court that it (CBI) was intentionally delaying investigation in the case. Special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh has now scheduled the next hearing on December 20.
On October 20, 2015, a ninemonth-old girl and a two-and-halfyear-old boy were burnt to death in Sunped. A total of 12 persons were arrested in the case but all got bail in the absence of a chargesheet. Those arrested include Adal Singh Rawat, Desh Raj, Naunihal, Joginder, Jagat, Aman, Akash, Balwant, Sanjay, Dharam Singh, Kartar and a juvenile.
The case against the 11accused is going on in Panchkula CBI court while the minor boy is being tried at Faridabad juvenile court.
Jitender Kumar, the victims’ father, had alleged that people from an upper caste community had barged into his house at 3am on October 20, 2015, poured petrol through a window inside the room where he and his wife were sleeping with their two children, and set it ablaze. However, those arrested in the case had claimed a frame-up, saying they were witnesses in a case of murder of three Rajput men in which 11 Dalits were accused. On October 5, 2014, three members of the Rajput community — Indraj, Mohan Lal and Bharat Pal — were killed in a fight with Dalits over a mobile phone. Jitendar’s two brothers are accused in the case.
The CBI had lodged an FIR on October 29, 2015 under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, on the basis of an FIR registered by the local police on the request of the Haryana government.
