Disenchantment season 2: Will there be a Futurama crossover amid huge Easter Egg?
Brand new animated series Disenchantment dropped on Netflix this August to mixed reviews.
Created by the man behind The Simpsons and Futurama, Matt Groening, Disenchantment boasts an impressive voice cast with Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson starring as princess Bean and John DiMaggio voicing King Zog.
All episodes were released in one go and Netflix has already recommissioned season two.
The second season is expected to be released around this time next year.A magical, medieval-themed adventure, Disenchantment featured several Easter Eggs from several other films and TV shows.
But most notably, there were nods to Groening’s other big shows, with a big Futurama reference in the finale.
Well-known characters Bender, Fry and Professor Farnsworth appeared in a scene with Luci and King Zog.
In the scene, the demon Luci (played by Eric Andre) uses a magical artefact to rewind time showing Zog events from the past.
WHAT ARE THE FILM AND TV REFERENCES IN DISENCHANTMENT?
Several images flash past and one very clearly shows Bender, Fry and the Professor in the time machine from season seven of Futurama.
This has led fans to theorise that Futurama and Disenchantment all exist within the same universe.
So will there be more Futurama in season two?

Though this has yet to be confirmed, it’s possible that series creators will include more Futurama references in season two of Disenchantment.
The Easter Egg in the finale could just be a nod to the show, but the context appears to be more significant.
It surely can’t be a coincidence that the image used in the scene shows the Futurama trio in the time machine.
Futurama was Groening’s hugely popular animated series that ran from 1999 to 2003 and was revived again in 2007 with four films, the last of which came out in 2009.
HOW MANY EPISODES WILL BE IN DISENCHANTMENT SEASON 2?
The Futurama episode referenced is titled The Late Philip J Fry from season seven.
In this episode, the Professor explains that the machine only travels forward through time so that events from the past can’t be altered.
However, when they get stuck in the future, he realises that time is cyclical, and in order to get back to their present, they must travel forward.
This leads them to get back to where they started by travelling through the past.
WHO IS IN THE CAST OF DISENCHANTMENT?
So when they appear in Luci’s visions from the past, it suggests that they travelled through the time period in which Disenchantment is set.
This brilliantly links the two shows together and opens up the possibility of a crossover in season two.
Fans will have to wait until next year to find out for sure, however.
