Killed in Iraq, Gurdeep Singh cremated in native Mahilpur

A pall of gloom descended Jaitpur village of Mahilpur Block, when the mortal remains of Gurdeep Singh, who was killed by ISIS in Iraq, reached his home.His mother fainted seeing his coffin. When Gurdeep’s 4 years old son lit the pyre, there would have been hardly anyone present there, whose eyes would not have dampened.
Gurdeep Singh, son of Mukhtyar Singh of Jaitpur village of Mahilpur Block, who went to Iraq in 2013, was kidnapped in June by ISIS terrorists and killed.
On April 2, his mortal remains reached Hoshiarpur and were kept in mortuary, from where his coffin was brought to his native village .His four-year-old son, Arush Preet Singh lit the pyre.
On behalf of the administration, SDM Garhshankar Hardeep Singh Dhaliwal was present and paid tributes. MLA Chabbewal Dr Raj Kumar also paid tributes and assured family of every possible help. Former Minister Sohan Singh Thandal, CPM leader Darshan Singh Mattoo, Akali leader Iqbal Singh Kheda, Paramjit Singh Panjod, Tehsildar Garhshankar Hardeep Singh, Naib Tehsildar Mahilpur Pawan Kumar, Naib Tehsildar Garhshankar Jasvir Kumar, BDPO Harbilas, DSP Chabbewal Gurjeet Singh, BJP leader Sanjeev Talwar, Sahil Samplaand a large number of people of the area were also present.
