The 7th edition of the high altitude Himalayan Running and Living marathon will be held in the picturesque Sangla Valley of Kinnaur district from April 30 to May 4.

This year runners from UK, Dubai, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Gujarat, Solan, Batseri and Sangla will participate in one of the few marathons above 10,000 feet above sea level in the world.

The run is being organised by Delhi-based Running and Living and supported by the department of Youth Services and Sports, Himachal Pradesh.

Additional Chief Secretary and Secretary Sports Tarun Kapoor said the landscapes of Himachal were ideal for challenging runs which treat the participants to what nature had to offer. The department was delighted to support this run and look forward to many more people from across the country and internationally, participating in this over the years to come, he said.

The spokesperson of the Youth Services and Sports department said that registered participants and those who want to register at the last minute would have to come to Banjara camp at Batseri Village, 8 km beyond Sangla, on April 30 for their race packet pick up and briefing. On 1 May, they will be required to trek, jog the distance from Raksham to Batseri and back on a beautiful jungle trail.

He said that on May 2, the half marathon participants would have to run 5,000 and the marathon participants have to run the 10,000, which had been made mandatory for acclimatisation. On May 3, there would be visit to Chitkul and beyond for trekking and running to get used to the higher altitude for the half and full marathoners.
