Bhopal: It was a hectic day for those protesting the shifting of slaughter house to Adampur Chhawni. BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma and leader of opposition in BMC Mohd Saghir are opposing right from beginning. Today also they opposed in their respective domains and capacity.

MLA Sharma led an ‘all religion’ march to Raj Bhavan and handed over a memorandum in protest against shifting slaughter house to Adampur Chhavani from Jinsi. He also led the protest at ISBT where Parishad meeting of BMC was held to discuss the issue.

On August 31, 2016, Central Bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) gave MP government 18 months to build a new slaughterhouse in place of the one operational in Jinsi for past 40 years. NGT had also slapped Rs one crore fine on the state for failing to adhere to its September 2015 order to shift the slaughterhouse to an alternative site by June 2016.

NGT had issued the order after MP Pollution Control Board disclosed that the slaughter house run by BMC was operating without any consent from MPPCB and also without installing any Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). Villagers of Adampur Chhawai under banner of Gramin Sangharsh Samiti had filed their objections and suggestions at collectorate in February 2017. They have been opposing the shifting of slaughter house from Jinsi. MLA Rameshwar Sharma and Congress leader Mohd Saghir have already opposed the shifting of the slaughterhouse. But the government has put the plan before NGT for selection of new site for slaughterhouse at Adampur.

Rameshwar Sharma, while talking to Free Press, said, “Today we took our all- religion march as members of Jain, Sikh, Muslim communities joined us. We handed over a memorandum to the governor in protest against shifting the slaughterhouse from Jinsi to Adampur Chhawni. Besides, we opposed at ISBT to mount pressure on BMC Parishad not to pass bill regarding the shifting. And today we succeeded at both the fronts.”
