Incessant rains in Nepal and bordering districts of  West Champaran and East Champaran has kept both the districts on the edge as flood water after carrying destruction in rural areas made their way into the urban areas. After 12 hours of rains in Motihari on Wednesday morning, the water level in the local Sikrana river swelled further and flood water entered the Sugauli railway station.

The railway tracks on the Muzaffarpur-Narlatiyaganj railway route at the Sugauli railway station was submerged under water by four feet suspending the movement of trains.

“It’s raining in Nepal and Motihari and therefore the water from Sikrana river has eater the railway station and the railway tracks have been submerged under water. All the four tracks between platform no.1 and no.2 are under water”, said DK, Azaad, a local.

What is adding to the woes of the people is that because of the water level rising continuously, there is no respite in sight in near future. The situation in Motihari. The railways officials at Sugauli station maintained that unless and until the water level in Sikrana comes down, the water on the railway tracks are here to stay.

“We don’t know by when the water be out from the railway tracks. Sikrana river is flowing over danger level and until water level comes down, the water on rail track cannot decline”, said a railway official.
