Cultural, religious events to mark Marathi New Year

A series of cultural, literary, and religious events besides colourful and musical processions will mark Gudi Padwa , the Marathi New Year, in the city on Sunday.Known as ‘swagat yatra’, (welcome procession), these rallies will have a lively accompaniment of the popular Nashik dhol. Apart from four processions in the old city, eight will be taken out from New Nashik, three from Nashik Road and one each from Deolali, Bhagur and Ambad.Old City: Four processions to welcome the New Year will be taken out from Old Nashik. Starting from Sakshi Ganesh Mandir, Sundar Narayan Mandir, Naag Chowk and Dwarka Chowk, these processions will culminate in front of Naro Shankar Mandir on Godavari Ghat, where a massive 25,000 sq ft Rangoli was created yesterday.New Nashik: Eight processions are scheduled to be taken out from New Nashik , As Reported By TOI.

According to the Newspaper,Residents of Mahatma Nagar, Nirmal Nagar, Narsingh Nagar, Shriram Mandir, Pandit Colony, College Road, Tidke Colony and Sambhaji Chowk will take out separate processions from their respective localities. They will assemble at Pawan Nagar Ground, where Marathi film stars Anita Datey and Ajit Chavan will greet them.Nashik Road: Residents of Upnagar, Nashik Road and Jail road areas will take out a procession from Utsav Mangal Karayalaya to reach Mukti Dhaam temple via Datta Mandir and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk. Apart from the traditional celebrations, people will be conveying social messages during the procession.
