Girl ends life as video goes viral in N'rangpur

A minor girl of Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district committed suicide on Wednesday, after a video featuring her intimate moments with a youth went viral on social media.

Reports said a youth of the area was in a relationship with the girl. Later, a clip of their intimate moments surfaced on social media and went viral.

The body of the girl was found hanging from a tree at a nearby forest in the morning. While the body was being brought to her house, a villager showed the video to the deceased’s father saying that she took the extreme step due to the clip.

Police have started investigation into the matter after the father of the deceased lodged an FIR.

The accused youth is absconding after the incident.

In another case, a woman was allegedly raped by a youth under the Ranpur police station in Nayagarh district when she was alone at her home on Tuesday evening.

The accused, who is from the same village has been arrested, police said.

Ranpur police station IIC Girija Shankar Rath said, “The woman, whose husband has died, came to the police station at around 7. 30 pm yesterday and filed a complaint alleging that one Lipuna Das (25) came to her house and raped her when she was alone. He also threatened her to kill her if she discloses the matter. Soon after the complaint, a team rushed to the spot and arrested the accused.”

The victim has been sent to hospital for medical examination while the accused will be forwarded to the court after the medical test, he added.
