This is perhaps the biggest temple in Karnataka, measuring 385 ft by 160 ft and having a total area of 50,000 sqft. The seven-storey main entrance is adorned with seven gold plated Kalasas complete with two protruding horns. The large courtyard is home to more than 122 images, bearing the largest number of sculptures depicting Shiva and his manifestations.

Temple festivals/special days

Chikkajathre ( Minor Fest) is celebrated in the month of November / December where three Chariots (Car festival) will be used

Inthe month of March / April Doddajatre (Major fest) is celebrated with 5 chariots dedicated to Ganesh, Sri Srikanteshwara, Parvathi, Subramanya & Chandikeshwara & some of the devotees also perform Jagrana (Staying awake throught the night and chanting, meditating)

Maha Shivratri -
A festival that celebrates the convergence of Shiva and Shakti.

Sri Girija Kalyana - during Ashadamasa -June / July, Celebrates the marriage of Lord Shiva with Girija (Parvathi).

Theppotsava - A ritual wherein the Utsava moorti is placed in a grandly decorated boat and ride for a short distance.This event is cheduled during Chikka jatre , Dodda Jatre and during Girija Kalyanam (3 days)

Laksha Deepotsava - last day of Kartikamaasa or on amavasya (no moon day)

A special day when thousands of diyas are lit, symbolic of welcoming 'light' and erasing darkness, ignorance & pain.
