Nidhi Prasad directed Micheal Madana Kamaraju, Andaru Dongale, Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw long time ago and this one U.Pe.Ku.Ha (Uulloo Pelliki Kukkala Hadavidi) is coming up with a wholesome entertainer with Rajendra Prasad in the lead. He has seven naive brothers who have enough wealth but not married. Since they are considered unwise, they don’t get alliances and the eldest brother tries his best to find a suitable match for his siblings. In this melee, some people who are no way related get involved and create disturbances in the brother’s family.
The director tells us about how he struck up on the idea. “When I was studying in college, I remember seeing an English film and an incident in that movie triggered many thoughts. The idea remained with me and now it got materialised. I love comedy and wish everyone should laugh and be happy. All I want to say through my stories is if you are positive you will be able to overcome all difficulties.”
Elaborating on the film Nidhi Prasad says, “this is action comedy and the situations create fun. It is not dialogue-based drama. The title is funny and has raised expectations and curiosity. Nidhi Prasad states that those who don’t know will find out from others what U.Pe.Ku.Ha is and those who are aware of the concept are sharing it with others. It is a non-stop entertainment and is targeted at all segments of audience. Isn’t the story outdated? “Not at all, the youth today in comparison to our generation are different. They say that we belong to a different generation, which is a clichéd statement. It is very easy to satisfy the current generation but difficult to please the old generation who has seen it all, as such I am sure this film will work.”
He adds, “There is a vacuum in the comedy genre right now. We are getting to see all kind of cinema, concept, commercial, formula…..but where is SV Krishna Reddy and Relangi Narasimha Rao, Jandhyala, EVV Satyanarayana kind of films? If there is humour it is sparse, here and there in ghost films or the comedians get slapped in hero- centric films. This film will revive interest and pull people to cinema halls.”
On the casting, he says, “there are 80 artistes in the movie. Rajendra Prasad was a perfect fit as a brother to his six siblings. Apart from him, other actors are Rishi, Krishnudu, Dhanraj, Hemanth, Sai and Kayyum play the brothers. Ali, Krishna Bhagwan, Jeeva and Brahmanandam create a riot. The siblings don’t let him marry and for many years he remains a bachelor. When he does and brings his wife home, the brothers don’t like it.”
Music for the film is scored by Anup Reubens. The film was shot in Vikarabad and the songs, in Kerala, specifically to capture nature.
