According to the Newspaper,The damage is largely because earth had settled where drainage lines were laid.Potholes and cave ins also took place near Badamdibaug, Kalaghoda, Alkapuri, Bakrawadi, O P Road, opposite the Laxmi Vilas Palace Gate, Manjalpur and some other places. These included openings of storm water drains or manholes that had become bigger due to soil being washed away from their borders.While the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) placed barricades or caution signages at some places, commuters had to identify potholes, at other places citizens had to put up branches of trees or sticks with rags to caution people.Filth left behind by the rains came to light in several basements in the city when water receded. Those who had parked their vehicles in such basements struggled to get them outside and send them to workshops.The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has issued notices to three contractors who took up drainage works in the city after it came to light that the land had caved in at several places along the stretch where they had laid drainage lines.Sources said that in some cases the settlement had taken place despite the work being conducted using the micro tunnelling technique where open trenches were not dug up.
