Between 'Friday Night Lights,' 'American Horror Story,' and 'Nashville,' we've been fangirling over Connie Britton for the better part of a decade. One thing that hasn't changed over time: The actress stays in such great shape.

"Eating healthy is a big part of my life because it's something I can really have control over and it doesn't take up a lot of my time," Britton told People. "And that's something that I know impacts my heart health, which is as important to me as how I'm looking on the outside."

So what exactly does she eat?

She Starts the Day With Energy

Britton has quite the morning routine. As she feeds her two dogs, she'll often fix herself a cold glass of water with a packet of Emergen-C Lite, probiotic powder, and a slice of lemon from her own tree in the backyard. "I think it really helps my immune system," she said of the mixture to Rachael Ray Every Day.

Next, it's time for mother-son breakfast. Not much of an avid chef in the kitchen admittedly, Britton has mastered the art of oatmeal.

"A lot of women, too, who are mothers, will just eat whatever their kid is eating because they won't have time to do both," she told SheFinds. "But the thing with oatmeal is, kids love oatmeal! My son loves oatmeal. I can make him oatmeal, and then I have a good, healthy breakfast. If you can start to think about it that way, find things that genuinely taste good to you and good for your body."

Her secret: She makes his with coconut oil, almond milk, and maple syrup so it's extra creamy and delicious.

Another thing she loves? Green smoothies.

She Brown Bags It To Set

Britton makes a point to stay away from the "gnarly-delicious snack food" at craft services when filming, and instead brings her lunch to set, she revealed to USAToday.

If she doesn't have time to make something at home, she swings by a healthy spot on the way in to ensure she'll be well-fueled later in the day. Her go-to lunch order: a fresh Greek salad with avocados, cucumbers, feta cheese, and fresh roasted turkey on top. "I also get a green matcha tea latte made with almond milk," she told Rachael Ray Every Day.

"Raw foods, and in particular juicing, have a positive impact on my body and my skin, so I try to do that as much as I can," she told USAToday.

"I like to feel good and I like to eat what makes my body feel good," she tells Yahoo Beauty. "So I do love a lot of raw stuff, green juices, and vegetables and things like that."

She's a Light Snacker

According to Yahoo Celebrity, Britton keeps simple, healthy snacks like almonds around the house for her and her son.

What's in her fridge? The actress told Bon Appetit she makes sure to stock San Pellegrino water, Izze sodas, juices and smoothies, New Leaf Living Foods soups, and, for her cheese-obsessed son, plenty of tortillas, milk, and cheese.

She Loves Trying New Foods and Experiences

As a self-proclaimed foodie, Britton loves getting out and trying new restaurants both on location or at home in Nashville.

"You have to encourage your body to take what it likes the best; it knows what you need. The key is balance and what serves your spirit the best," she told New Beauty.

For Britton, that means shared meals. "I also love the ritual of dinner and what that means for your community and getting together with your friends, and I never want to deny myself of that."

While she's not much of a cook, she loves going out to dinner with her friends. "I order wild-caught grilled salmon, salad and tons of veggies like brussels sprouts and artichokes," she told Rachael Ray Every Day. "When I splurge, I get filet mignon medium rare. I don't need fancy sauces, but I love sautéed spinach with garlic and olive oil."

If She Had To Cheat, Cake Would Always Win

"I love pasta," she told People, "and if I was really, really going to cheat and be really bad and didn't care about calories, I go for chocolate cake. Sugar is something that I really try to stay away from, though."

And sometimes, even stars have to give in to their comfort food: "Last year, because the hours were so long, I made a rule for myself that after 13 or 14 hours [on the set] all bets are off," she said to USAToday. "I can go for the M&Ms and the almonds if I want to!"

It's All About Knowing Yourself and Sticking With It

Britton points out that, even without a hit TV show, we're all overwhelmingly busy - which is why she says it's so important that when you have to grab something on the go, you take the time to pick a snack that'll be good for your body.

"My philosophy on life impacts my diet," she told New Beauty. "I don't want to create a vision of a woman who is starving herself, but I also like to feel healthy and good, and there are just certain healthy foods that do that, so I have a tendency to stick with those."
