Pokemon Go PvP release date NEWS: AMAZING Niantic feature coming sooner than you think
Pokemon Go developer Niantic is about to add a huge new feature to the game.
After years of waiting, fans have finally been treated to the news that PvP battles are coming to the game.
And even better news is that there's not long to wait, because PvP battles will be available very soon.
In a recent event attended by Express Online, a Niantic spokesperson said that PvP battles would be coming in early December.
The only catch is that the new feature will be rolled out gradually, starting with high level players.
This mirrors previous new features like trading and Adventure Sync, which were initially only available to level 40 users.
"Niantic, Inc. and The Pokemon Company International today announced that the highly anticipated Trainer Battles feature will be coming soon to Pokemon GO," reads a Niantic tweet.
"This new social gameplay feature for Pokemon GO gives Trainers a chance to participate in fast, fun and friendly Pokemon battles with other Trainers."
Based on our hands-on time with the feature, PvP battles will be a great way of earning fresh rewards.
Players can initiate battles by scanning a rival's QR code and selecting a league (see above).
Once you've picked a league, your next job is to pick a team and start battling.
Battles are similar to the ones found in Raids and Gyms, with players frantically tapping the screen to inflict damage.
There are, however, one or two new features that provide a little extra depth.
Players can defend against special attacks by using a shield, although supplies are limited.
Charge attacks also appear in PvP battles, as players increase the damage by furiously tapping the screen.
Niantic explains more: "Trainers that are together in the real world can invite each other to participate in friendly Trainer Battles through a new Battle Code invitation system.
"Those that have established real-world connections with other Trainers will be able to engage in remote Trainer Battles if their friendships have reached the Ultra Friends level or higher.
"To encourage fair and fun competition between Trainers, tiered Battle Leagues will put a maximum cap on participating Pokemon’s strength to keep the playing field even. After a Trainer Battle concludes, both Trainers will receive a prize, including a chance of getting rare Evolution items that work on certain species of Pokemon."
Niantic will continue to update and improve the PvP system as time goes in, borrowing elements from the core games.
